FAQs
  • Can my child climb?
    • Our climbing is generally set for older kids and adults. There are no "Kiddie" specific areas, and though we do have equipment to fit them, we find that kids under the age of 5 have little to no success. Even those who seem most adventurous at home often freeze up when trying to take in the whole scope of what is going on in a busy gym and all the necessary equipment. We require a ratio of 1 supervising adult for 3 children and a 1:1 for bouldering. The bouldering area is often very busy and an under-supervised child can be at great risk of being landed on by a climber doing their normal workout.
Children under 15 years of age must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times.
    • The Edge Halfmoon does not staff belayers (*folks who hold the ropes for climbers) for your children. However, we are happy to train you (or other teens and adults) how to belay your young child.
  • Is there a weight minimum or maximum?
    • No max for standard ropes, but a max of 330 on auto belays.
    • Weight minimum for auto belays is 15 pounds.
  • Do I still need to make a reservation if I'm a member?
    • Only if you are bringing a guest.
  • When will the reservation system end?
    • Our intention is to keep the reservation system going forward as it has helped in keeping a safer gym by managing traffic flow and staff needs.
  • What should I wear?
    • Climbing is a fairly slow moving sport and the goal is to not get sweaty. For this reason, we keep the building fairly cold. In addition, usually you'll be wearing a harness, so pants are often your best bet. Joggers or leggings work well, something that stretches with you. If you do prefer shorts, remember that you'll be climbing above others, so you'll need to wear full coverage underwear. If you'll be renting shoes, you'll need to wear socks with our rentals.
